The onslaught of generative AI has been devastating to faculty and students who are dedicated to critical and creative thinking, making and doing.

Starting in January of 2025, the Department of Arts, Culture, and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough initiated the GenAI & Classroom Dynamics Working group.

The “No, no, and no” approach is focused on faculty efforts to build classroom dynamics and methods of assessment and evaluation that refuse, or ban, the use of GenAI, as well as (in some cases) the use of devices (phones, tablets and laptops) in class as well as in assignments.

Myth: Using GenAI “just” for summarizing, brainstorming, outlining, and polishing does not interfere with the learning process.
